THE FARM
Mistlehall Farm is a 40 acre smallholding overlooking Chatsworth Park. Farmed on a natural, chemical-free regime and rising to 900ft above sea-level, the moorland-edge, SSSI site is managed to protect and enhance its rich blend of flora and fauna.
THE HENS
We choose Lohman Brown birds for their robust nature and ability to cope with the moorland habitat. They are renowned for their placid temperament and for large eggs with strong brown shells. They are Salmonella vaccinated and monitored.
THE SYSTEM
The high welfare system includes green lighting to avoid stress and 24hr attendance. The birds are heather-grazed and spring-water fed. As eggs are 80% water, the purity of the water is essential for the quality and flavour of the egg. The springwater at Mistlehall is tested annually and the natural waterfalls ensure high oxygenation. Diet forms an important part of disease prevention at Mistlehall. The GM and colourant-free corn is enriched with chelated minerals and herbs to ensure shell quality and boost immunity. Free access to the rich flora provided by our land management allows the hens to keep healthy without chemical intervention. The farm is both BEIC and RSPCA FREEDOM FOOD accredited.
Mistlehall Farm Eggs have a unique niche between organic and conventional free-range and usually prove to be the most popular choice when placed between the two. They are packed and delivered direct from the farm the day after being laid to ensure perfect freshness.
